Change Major

Things to consider:

  • Nearly all the majors housed in the College of Fine Arts and Communications (CFAC) are Limited Enrollment Programs (LEPs), which means they require an application or audition to declare the major. Admission is limited to certain times of the year.
  • Before a student has earned 60 BYU Credit Hours, the student must select a primary major program.
  • A "pre-major" is not a primary major. It refers to a temporary major used while students take foundational courses and explore options before being accepted into a limited enrollment program. A pre-major is not a primary major program.
  • Some departments/schools do not allow students to major and minor in the same department/school.
  • Depending on credits earned, your request may be denied or require additional steps.

Steps to change your major:

You can submit a change of major request in MyMap. Pick one of these options:

  1. In the top header, select “More” then “Explore Majors & Minors" and click on "Change" next to your major.
  2. On the register tab, scroll down to where your major is listed, click “menu” then “request major change”.
